The most clever way to promote a podcast, increase podcast audience or listeners and downloads!
Maybe you have not heard of this yet, but as a radio broadcaster and a pod-caster, I can attest that promoting a podcast on an online radio is probably the most ingenious way to get more consumers of your audio content.
Here is what happened to my own podcast, I gained hundreds of listeners since I started promoting it on my own online radio. You wont see thousands of downloads or number of plays since my target market is not much aware of podcasting yet. Plus I am speaking in a local language so the target audience is very specific. I live in the Philippines and podcasting here is still young. You can see a very high increase of listeners since its publication (see photo below).

The playing field has been leveled and the barriers to entry have been torn down.
Every day, people enjoy inspired lives built upon their art, their passions, and their ideas. Not because someone gave them permission, but because they decided this was their time and they weren’t going to be satisfied if they missed it. It is no longer a question of whether or not “they” will let you. It is simply: will you? Starting today, you could create and launch a podcast in 30 days, have it build an audience of rabid fans, and — through the power of podcasting — potentially reach millions of people around the world. Seems unlikely, doesn’t it? Yet, it happens almost every day. Tell your story Under the old rules, a gatekeeper who owned the airwaves would never give you a radio show if you didn’t have the credentials he deemed necessary. So, your story would go untold. Times have changed. We now live in a time in which we can control our own platforms and tell our own stories. We no longer need approval, so don’t wait for someone else to tell you to start. However, if that is what you are waiting for … Start. An unstoppable force in content marketing From its humble beginnings in 2003, podcasting has become an unstoppable force in content marketing and shows no signs of stopping — the number of active podcasts has skyrocketed since 2008. Check out the infographic below to explore the history of podcasting, the growth of podcast listeners, the most popular podcast categories, and more. Like this infographic? Soundcloud Podcasting in 2015I started working online as a podcast editor last year and most of my clients are using Libsyn or Blubrry; these are two of the most popular media hosting sites for podcasters. Recently, Soundcloud has just opened the hosting service for podcasting. They have been beta testing its podcasting features since 2011 and now it's easy for anyone to setup the RSS feed on Soundcloud. This article assumes that you already have an account with Soundcloud. If you have not created it yet, then you must make one first before submitting the RSS as shown in the photos below. Here are the steps provided by Soundcloud: 1. If you haven't created a SoundCloud account yet, go to SoundCloud and set one up. Please remember:
3. Adjust content settings by clicking over to the Content tab in settings:
Here are the steps on how to activate your RSS: Submitting the RSS feed to iTunes Before submitting the feed URL anywhere like iTunes, please review the Setting up your feed section below: When your RSS feed URL is ready then follow these steps:
Just wait for the confirmation email from any of these directories and you're good to go. Good luck to your podcast and enjoy!
There are 225,000 active podcasts and iTunes hit 1 billion plus podcast subscriptions in 2013 via the iTunes store and new episodes are being added regularly. So how can you get the chance of being featured?
1. Get an attractive cover. This cover must be original and should follow the required format 1400 x 1400-pixel JPEG or PNG file in the RGB color space. This format looks good when it is smaller. Remember, your listeners are probably using an iPhone or smartphone and the screen is smaller in these devices. The name has to be easily seen, and it has to look good. Cover art must be: - Clear and clean (no artifacts and high contrast background) - Should not represent profanity, illegal drugs, hate themes, sex and violence whether in the title or description. - It should not show racism, misogynism, and homophobia - It should not contain any Apple's logo 2. Create a rich and precise description. Your podcast should have an accurate statement that represents your show in writing. This is where you need to let the iTunes know that your podcast is real and worth listing. 3. Mark appropriate tags. This tells the iTunes what category your podcast belongs to. What language it has and what type of content it is. Is it explicit or clean. 4. Get a High Quality Intro. It is the first impression to your podcast. One of the ways to get a great first impression is to create an attractive intro. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Suit up for success. Get a professional podcast image. 5. Get a High Quality editing. Along with sound quality, make sure that the podcast sounds professional. No background noise, long pauses and flubs. Would you listen to a podcast that sounds like a show made by a kindergarten kid? I will. But don't expect people to download it. I am sure you know what that means. 6. Get more activity in a shortest time possible. How? You need to get more downloads and reviews. Tons of it! If you have friends and followers this wont be a problem. If not, then you need to promote your podcast before launch. Utilize all the social media you know and list your show on appropriate websites and blogs. Set up as many social media profile pages for your podcast as possible before launch time. Tell everyone that you have a podcast because the worst thing you can do is to launch your podcast with no one is listening... well downloading since it's a podcast not an Internet radio. Send out a press release announcing the launch of your podcast. Another way to get more activity on your podcast is to make more than one episode when you launch. I suggest at least three. More episodes, more opportunity for downloads. Another thing to consider is to make a compelling title of your episode. This will drive your potential listeners to download your content. If you want to be part of the New and Noteworthy list of iTunes, I can help you achieve this goal at a low cost. Here are my clients who made it to the NN List.: becominganexpat.com or movingabroadpodcast.com - Made it to the NN list after five days. I edited her first 6 episodes. http://johnnyandlara.com - Made it to the NN list after a few days. I am currently their audio editor and podcast blog post manager. Just take note that even with the above elements, promotion is not guaranteed. The only thing I can assure you is that I will do my best to edit your show to make it sound like a Pro! And the only thing you need to work on is to have an ample amount of people who will support your show. That can be done by promoting your podcast to your friends and followers ahead of time. So are you ready to start this partnership? Please let me know. I am ready for your podcast. UPDATE My Own Podcast is on the N&N (as of March 15, 2016) RWB Podcast I have now 8 podcasts on the New & Noteworthy list of iTunes this 2015! Thank God! 1.
